Tighthead prop John Ryan put in another strong performance in the scrum for Munster as they beat Ulster Rugby 22-20 to secure a home semi-final in the Guinness PRO 12. Darren Sweetnam unfortunately had to be replaced in the first couple of minutes after a knock to he head. Andrew Conway came on in place of Darren and was involved in a lot of good play throughout. Munster are second in the league standings.
Leinster Rugby beat Connacht Rugby 37-24 in a game which saw eight Navy Blue clients involved across the two sides. Craig Ronaldson started at inside centre for Connacht and kicked five out of six kicks l in this high-scoring game. Sean O’Brien came off the bench halfway through the first half for Connacht and slotted in seamlessly in the second row. Rhys Ruddock captained Leinster from no.8 and it was his try that secured the bonus point for his side as he went over from close range. Second row Ross Molony ran the lineout for Leinster while flanker Dominic Ryan carried well while also racking up a good tackle count in a strong 80 mins. James Tracy started at hooker for Leinster and threw well before being replaced in the second half. Inside centre Noel Reid put in another very consistent performance as he continued his run of fine form for the province. Tom Daly made an appearance from the bench as he came into the midfield late on. Leinster are top of the league.
A try from back row Willie Ryan with ten minutes left on the clock was not enough for Ealing Trailfinders as they were beaten 20-33 by Yorkshire Carnegie. There was good news however for Ealing as results elsewhere meant they have secured third place in the Greene King IPA Championship. The first leg of Ealing’s play off semi-final takes place on 29th April and the return leg is 5th May with Yorkshire set to be their opponents.
Fullback Peter Lydon scored a try and a conversion for London Scottish in his final appearance for the club in their 19-46 defeat to Nottingham. This result sees The Scots finish seventh in the Championship table. Peter moves to Ealing Trailfinders next season.
