A much more energetic performance for Ireland in their win over Samoa in the final pool games of Rugby World Cup. Andrew Porter has become a vital substitute for Ireland and makes a difference every time he comes on the pitch. The Ireland team got scrum dominance when Andrew entered the fray on the 44thminute. Andrew Conway has also been impressive with any game time he has been given and came on for the final quarter to added a renewed energy to the team and scored a try.
Unfortunately Conor O’Shea and Italy’s Rugby World Cup journey was cut short as their game v New Zealand was cancelled due to Typhoon Hagibis
Noel Reid continues to impress at outhalf for Leicester in the Premiership Rugby Cup. He bagged himself a try and conversion in Leicester defeat to Northampton and was also key in another try with a grubber and reclaim and the most audacious pass out to the wing.
Ulster bounced back with a win against the Southern Kings. Eric O’Sullivan started in the front row and produced a solid 55 minutes. Greg Jones was sprung off the bench to finish out the game. Jerry Sexton looks set to become a mainstay of the Kings second row as he saw out another full game.
Munster lost heavily to an in form Cheetahs side. Fineen Wycherley & Darren Sweetnam are constants in this Munster team and played the full 80. James Cronin again came on at 55mins as he continues to clock up valuable game time.
For the opening 20 mins Connacht were under huge pressure from the Dragons and had to defend resolutely to keep them out, which resulted in Tiernan O’Halloran going off injured. Matt Healy was key in one of Connacht’s best attacks, as the ball was flung wide to his wing and he produced a brilliant chip & chase, that ended up in Matt powering over for a try. Eoghan Masterson played the full game and was a key member of an all action backrow.
Dave Johnston found himself back in fullback for Ealing Trailfinders as they had a difficult away game to Cornish Pirates.
Joy Neville was in Tunisia for the African Olympic qualifiers.
Fiona Coghlan continues her Rugby World Cup duties for RTE, as she features on the highlights shows and did the studio analysis for the France v Tonga game. Darragh Maloney and Richie Sadlier are key cogs in RTE’s soccer coverage which saw them covering Ireland’s European qualifier.
Congratulations to Mags D’Arcy who was involved with St Martin’s Camogie Squad that have now won 3 in a row Wexford Senior County Championship and look to press on again this year in the All Ireland Championship.
